Journey To Fitness Through Yoga
Started Hot Yoga on Wed. The theme of my practices is I am who I am….and I practice to get better, there is no judgment to the end only progress.
Hot Yoga Basic Class. I was on track even in the sauna temperature that gradually went up to about 90 to 100 degrees… Oh Hell Yeah it was hot up in there, no joke. I love the class. I have never, ever sweated so hard in my life. My shoulder injury gave me a little problem but I modified my way through it and did pretty good. The class was 60 minutes. When I got home there was no sign of insomnia it was a second hot shower and off to bed….whew it wore me out. I actually was in bed by 8:30 and slept the whole night….amazing.
Hot Yoga Vinyassa for day two… OMG! that class was no joke… at the end of class it looked like someone threw two buckets of water on me, my clothes were soaking wet from head to toe… The class was really face paced…I was able to keep the pace to the end. My shoulder felt good today, but I still had to modify especially near the end. I fell asleep early but I woke up about 12:00 am my body felt like i had be beaten. I guess when my tired muscles got cold…they wanted to let me know Vinyassa had kicked my butt..it was no joke.
Hot Yoga Sacred Music…. this class was done by candle light and the music was louder… I enjoyed the music and followed along with the instructors directions. This class is not for students who are not familiar with the poses, because you can’t really see the instructor. It was a great class, I enjoyed it. I don’t think I drank enough water…I felt alot of resistance in my muscles and I felt tired quicker during the class. My practice today brought me some insight as I thought about the resistance that I was feeling… I found that I was really flexible in some areas and rigid in others. Usually how your approach your practice is how you approach life…..I will look into the parallels and hold up the practice mirror to my life and see what I see.
I am wondering if i can make it to class on Day four….the heat outside has been a challenge, hydration wise and with the extra sweating I am feeling the results…ugh!
Day Four…. took a break need a little recovery time, my shoulder feels great. However, I just felt tired today so I am taking a break. I did do some research and it is recommended you do this type of practice 3 times a week so I guess I had reached my current threshold… see you tomorrow!
Day Four… these are some videos that I found…. I have some difficulty with the balancing poses so I will be using these videos to practice at home. They suggest heating your room at home or taking a very hot shower before executing the poses. enjoy….

Day Five… Was good… I lasted 2 seconds longer in the balance series. I read a book on Bikram Yoga at B&N it was pretty good, every encouraging. I had lunch with my home girl Step after class…. I love Pasha’s and now I found out they have Brunch on Sundays!
Day Six…..Whew motivation to go to class is way down… I did drink my water but I am sitting here on FB when I should be packing my bag to go to class. I packed my bag… I got in my car.. I took the exit to Norfolk and detoured to the grocery store. So it was not laziness or lack of motivation. My body just really wanted a break. One of the first principles of yoga is to listen to the body and give it what it wants… so the body wins. I have decided to stay home and practice the yoga nidra….which is the yoga of being completely still (no sleeping allowed). It is a great guided meditation.
Day Seven last day of my trail membership. I am hooked on Hot Yoga it is truly amazing the difference I see in how I feel and how my body has responded to the st reaching and bending. I feel a real sense of clarity after class and my spirit is calm and uplifted. I am so excited about the class I am increasing my practice time in hopes of motivating myself to get certified.

Yoga is definitely a great way to stay fit. Most people think it is only a way to relax but people who are serious about yoga are usually in great shape. If you can get into a good routine, your body will feel great and you can keep a good level of fitness.
